Interestingly, the release of the new AI model came on the first day of the Lunar New Year, when most of China is closed and people are off their work. The release of a new AI model of the company on a holiday, when most of the country is closed, reflects the ongoing competition in the global AI market.

DeepSeek, within a span of three-weeks, has startled markets with its capacity to compete with industry leaders like Open AI. The tech company’s AI assistant became the No 1 downloaded free app on Apple’s iPhone store on January 27, shocking several other tech companies in the world.

The startup which was founded in 2023 by Liang Wenfeng released its first AI large language model in January 2024.
