Chiranjeevi urges people to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with ‘Seed Ganesha’

Megastar Chiranjeevi has urged people to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with eco-friendly Seed Ganesha idols made of clay and embedded seeds. He unveiled the idols promoted by Green India Challenge and appealed to citizens to combine devotion with environmental responsibility.

Hyderabad: Megastar Chiranjeevi has urged people to celebrate the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival with ‘Seed Ganesha’, the popular eco-friendly Ganesha idols made up of clay with embedded seeds that eventually grow into a plant.

Clay idols with Seed Ganesha will protect nature and also help to grow saplings in our courtyard after the idol immersion at home, he said, while unveiling Green India Challenge’s (GIC) Seed Ganesha idols at his residence on Sunday in the presence of Founder of GIC and former MP, J Santosh Kumar.

Describing Green India Challenge as a ‘Yagna’, Chiranjeevi appreciated the initiative for inspiring lakhs of people to plant 20 crore saplings. Pledging his full support for the cause, the star actor said that Santosh Kumar’s efforts to promote the concept must be admired.

“Worshipping Seed Ganesha brings both spiritual merit and the sacred duty of protecting nature. Intense use of Plaster of Paris idols, which pollute water resources, is a big concern. I urge people to immerse a Seed Ganesha idol at home after puja. God himself becomes a plant and blesses you. Worship Vinayaka and fulfill your duty to plant trees, both at once,” he said.

Inspired by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s brainchild Haritha Haram, the Green India Challenge was launched in 2018 with a simple formula: ‘ plant 3 saplings, nurture them for 3 years, and nominate 3 more people’. So far, 19.60 crore saplings were planted under GIC across the country, Santosh Kumar said.

The former MP appealed to citizens, housing societies and temple committees to adopt Seed Ganesha and turn the festival into a meaningful environmental movement.
