Hyderabad: Till Sunday, Chris Greaves was an unknown figure in the cricketing world. But after his exploits against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup there is an undeniable clamour that has set search engines on fire. The Scottish player, who works as an Amazon delivery driver, is now ‘delivering’ goods on the cricket arena.
As Scotland captain Kyle Coetze said after the biggest upset win over Bangladesh, “I am really proud of Greaves. He really sacrificed a lot. He was delivering parcels for Amazon not too long ago, and now is getting Player of the Match against Bangladesh. I am not sure if he will appreciate me saying this. Seeing the performance from Mark Watt and Chris Greaves with the bat today (Sunday), they are lesser-known people who had to make many sacrifices to get to where they are today (Sunday).

“Greaves isn’t a contracted player in Scotland. He was on the fringes. He put his hand up, worked extremely hard and put himself in the picture. Going back a month, he wouldn’t even start in one of these games. Look at what he has done. It is just proof in the pudding that there are some quality players around Associate cricket. They just need the platform to show it.”
Hailing from a humble background, this 31-year-old swung the match with his exploits, both with his willow and ball. Coming to bat at No.7 when Scotland were in trouble at Al Amerat Cricket Ground on Sunday, Greaves blasted 45 runs (4×4, 2×6) to help Scotland post 140.
Chasing 141 runs for victory, Bangladesh were cruising through Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. Asked to bowl in the 12th over, leg spinner Greaves (3-0-19-2), rattled Bangladesh as he scalped the wickets of Shakib and Rahim. Bangladesh could not recover before slipping to a shocking defeat.
For a jubilant Greaves, it was a great, great game. “It was my day. It will be many other days that any one of us in that squad will be a part of. I’m just glad I could contribute in the way I did. Incredible. There’s so many words. Just really enjoying it and taking one day at a time. Hopefully many more days like this to come,’’ said Greaves after receiving the player of the match award.
