Hyderabad: Crime Investigation Department (CID) Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) Govind Singh here on Monday requested the Forum for Good Governance Secretary M Padmanabha Reddy not to spread factually incorrect information in the society. Referring to the recent statements made by Reddy on the functioning of CID, Singh urged Reddy to go by the facts and appreciate the good work done by the CID officers and the staff. Reddy obtained information under RTI for the period from June 2014 to April 2018, but was spreading rumours against CID without obtaining latest information, Singh said.

At the time of bifurcation, there were only 396 cases and as on date there were only 238 cases which are under investigation. “It is inappropriate to say that the pendency has increased,” Singh said. Refuting the allegations pertaining to CID’s budget, he said the CID’s budget is only Rs 3.50 crore.

The existing strength was only 544 including the staff in the Women Safety Wing and Fingerprint Bureau but not 820 as alleged by Reddy. The long pending cases were mostly the cases in which High Court issued stay, he added. “We are making continuous efforts to get the stay vacated on cases and expedite the probe to bring them to the logical conclusion,” Singh said. He said there was no complacency in the disposal of cases and the same might be understood in the right perspective.

Thus, the ADGP said mudslinging and tarnishing the image of CID would demoralise the officers, who are leaving no stone unturned in investigating the pending cases. “When I assumed charge as ADGP CID in March 2017, 506 cases are under investigation. There are only 238 pending cases with us now,” Singh added.
