Hyderabad: Industry body CII Telangana congratulated Telangana Government and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao for continued efforts towards promoting arts and crafts of Telangana.
Sameer Goel, Chairman of CII Telangana, said the Minister with his innovative ideas showcased the the rich tradition of Telangana by gifting GI products of Telangana like the Pochampally Ikat sarees, Cheriyal paintings, Karimnagar Silver Filigree to the members of Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT during their visit to Hyderabad last week.
Mahua Moitra, MP from Trinamool Congress, had tweeted a picture of her wearing a Pochampally Ikat saree and thanked Rama Rao for gifting her the traditional craft of Telangana.
Subhajit Saha, Director, CII Telangana, said CII played a role in GI registration of these crafts. The Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) got Pochampally nominated as one of the three villages in the country in the ‘Best Tourism Village’ category for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation Awards 2021 (UNWTO).
Also, with Ramappa Temple in Warangal being designated as UNESCO heritage site, Telangana is uniquely placed to launch the concept of GI tourism to promote GI registered crafts of Pochampally Ikat and Warangal durries, he said in a release.
