Civil Defence Mock Drill on May 7: Where, when and who will conduct the drill in Hyderabad

The mock drill will be conducted in the city within ORR. A total of 12 civil defence services will largely undertake the drill.

Hyderabad: As part of the Civil Defence Mock Drill, Hyderabad is all set to hold ‘Operation Abhyaas’ on May 7 between 4 pm and 4.30 pm. The mock drill will be conducted in the city within ORR. A total of 12 civil defence services will largely undertake the drill.

A nation-wide mock drill, as per the directions of the Ministry of Home Affairs, will be conducted in 244 districts, which have been identified as vulnerable.

List of activities

* Code Name: ‘Operation Abhyaas’

– Simulation: Incoming Air Raid at 4 pm

Mock drill activities

Activation of Sirens in the entire city (within ORR)

Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) to initiate industrial sirens, police mikes in junctions and other areas, patrol vehicles, fire sirens etc

Police, Fire, Medical, Industrial Departments to ensure the sirens are switched on promptly in the entire city for two minutes

– Action by Public & Volunteers

– Crucial to act quickly and calmly

– Seek Shelter Immediately – Move away from open areas and find a sturdy building or underground shelter

– Stay Informed and follow updates from official sources like TV, radio, or government apps

– Avoid Rumors – Do not rely on unverified sources

– Turn Off Utilities – If you’re at home, turn off electrical appliances, gas, and open flames like stoves or fireplaces

– Stay Put Until Safe – Remain in your shelter until authorities confirm that the danger has passed

– If caught outside with no shelter nearby, find a low-lying area, lie flat, and cover your head. Stay as protected as possible

– At 4.15 pm

ICCC to alert Civil Defence services regarding impact of air raid in 4 different locations in the city

– Action by Civil Defence Services:

Police, Fire Brigade, Rescue/SDRF, Medical, Revenue/local municipal authorities to reach the respective incident sites by 4.20 pm

– Police to clear the incident areas, cordon off, mob control etc so that the other services reach without delay, transportation of injured persons and evacuation of public to safe shelters

– Civil Defence Wardens & Volunteers to report the damages, missing persons list to the fire brigade and rescue services

– Fire, Rescue services to start the fire fighting, Search and Rescue operations immediately

– SDRF & DRF to clear the rubble, debris/wreckage which is obstructing the movement of other CD services on the road to facilitate rescue operations

– Medical & Health services to be ready for triage, first aid and shifting of the injured rescued by the fire and rescue services. Casualty evacuation from damaged buildings

Temporary Hospital Setting up to be done to treat the injured

– Transport Services to be ready to shift the evacuated public from endangered areas to the pre-identified safe shelters / bunkers / demilitarized zones

– Revenue, Civil Supplies, GHMC & other local bodies to provide immediate relief to the public at the safe shelters

*Blackout measures

– Blackout measures during air raids are designed to minimize visibility to enemy aircraft and reduce the risk of bombings

– Turning Off Lights – By switching off streetlights, building lights, and illuminated advertisements to prevent detection

– Covering Windows – Homes and businesses use opaque materials to block light from escaping

– Vehicle Light Restrictions – Car headlights are dimmed or covered to reduce visibility from the air

– Camouflaging Critical Infrastructure – Important facilities like power stations and communication towers are concealed to avoid targeting

Time: 4.30 pm

* ICCC to alert all the communication channels and activate sirens to close the mock drill

– Citizens to cooperate with government agencies involved, not to believe any rumors or news from non-governmental sources. Mock drill exercise will be closed at 4.30 pm.

Four locations zeroed in for civil defence mock drill in Hyderabad

The drill will be conducted at four locations – Secunderabad Cantonment, Golconda Cantonment, Kanchan Bagh and Nacharam. Hyderabad is one of 244 vulnerable districts in the country identified and as part of nationwide ‘Operation Abhyaas’ – civil defence exercise.
