Warangal: Farmers and TRS party workers led by Ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Satyavathi Rathod, Chief Whip Vinay Bhaskar and MLAs staged dharnas at several places in erstwhile Warangal district on Friday. They demanded the Centre to make a categorical statement on the purchase of paddy harvest of Yasangi season from Telangana.

Addressing the farmers at a dharna at Rayaparthy Chowrasta on Warangal-Khammam highway, Minister Dayakar Rao said the BJP government was not giving clarity on paddy purchase, and demanded that the Centre issue a statement for the benefit of the farmers of Telangana if it was really committed for their welfare.

“The Centre is not ready to purchase the paddy from Telangana. There is no clarity on it so far. However, the State government led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has made arrangements to purchase each grain by paying MSP for this Vaanakalam. We are demanding the Centre to make a categorical statement on purchase of paddy harvested in the Yasangi season. The Centre must say if it will purchase the fine variety (sanna rakalu), if the farmers sow the fine variety instead of the common grade variety (doddu rakalu),” he said, and added that the TRS government had purchased the paddy even when Covid-19 cases had surged, and stocked the paddy in schools, hostels, and godowns. “The paddy yet to be purchased by the Centre is worth Rs 25,000 crore. If the Centre does not purchase it, the State will suffer a huge loss,” the Minister explained.

Meanwhile, the party cadre led by Warangal West MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar took out a procession from Ashoka Chowrasta to Prof Jayashankar Park in Hanamkonda on Friday and staged dharna at the park demanding the Centre to purchase paddy of Yasangi season. Vinay Bhaskar termed the BJP as “Bhrashtachar Janta Party” and accused it of resorting to anti-farmer policies. “Telangana State in the South is suitable to grow paddy. But the Centre is showing discrimination against Telangana and favouring Punjab,” he added.

Minister Satyavathi Rathod staged dharna at Mulugu district headquarters. The party leaders castigated the BJP State leaders for their nonsense and double standards.
