CM asks Centre for 222 acres for Bapu Ghat development
Revanth Reddy also brought to the notice of the union Minister about the AAI pre-feasibility survey, which disclosed that the earlier identified land in Peddapalli district was not suitable for construction of an airport.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday appealed to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to transfer 222.27 acres of defence land to the State government for development of Bapu Ghat at the confluence of the Isa and Musi rivers in the city.Meeting Singh in New Delhi, he also briefed the union Minister on Gandhi Sarovar project, which he said would include a Knowledge Hub, Meditation Centre, handloom promotion centre, a Statue of Peace and museums at Bapu Ghat.
The Chief Minister later met Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu and said the State government had obtained the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from GMR (a condition that there should be a distance of 150 km from one airport to another) for setting up an airport in Warangal, the second largest city in Telangana. For the acquisition of 253 acres, Rs.205 crore was handed over to Airports Authority of India (AAI), he said, adding that the previously identified land for establishing an airport at Kothagudem was not suitable and 950 acres has been identified in Paloncha as an alternative site. The details of the particular land were provided to AAI, he said requesting for permission for the airport.
Revanth Reddy also brought to the notice of the union Minister about the AAI pre-feasibility survey, which disclosed that the earlier identified land in Peddapalli district was not suitable for construction of an airport. As an alternative, the State government had identified 591.24 acres at Antargaon, he said. The Chief Minister further told Rammohan Naidu that the Indian Air Force (IAF) already possessed 369.50 acres in Adilabad and an additional 249.82 acres was required for full-scale operations. The State government was ready to acquire the additional land and hand over the same to the Ministry, he added.
