Khammam: Different Dalit organisations in Khammam thanked Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for introducing ‘CM Dalit Empowerment Scheme’ in a unique way on Wednesday by organising ‘Dappula Daruvu and Manava Haram.’

Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar along with Zilla Parishad Chairman Lingala Kamalraj, MLAs, S Venkata Veeraiah and L Ramulu Naik took part in the programme at Ambedkar Centre here.

A large number of Dalit activists from organisations like MRPS, Mala Mahanadu, BR Ambedkar Praja Samkshema Sangham and other leaders beat drums and formed a human chain and paid floral tributes to Ambedkar statue.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister, stating that the Chief Minister was committed to Dalit welfare in the State, introduced the scheme with the objective of achieving all round growth of poor dalit families as aspired by Ambedkar.

The scheme, wherein Rs 10 lakh financial assistance given to poor in the community, would help to provide livelihood and assist youngsters to set up business enterprises. The State government planned to spend Rs 1200 crore on the scheme, Ajay Kumar said and thanked the Chief Minister for his initiative towards the upliftment of dalit community.

The ZP Chairman, Kamalraj and MLA Venkata Veeraiah stated that the CM Dalit Empowerment Scheme would help the poorer sections in the community to achieve financial freedom and live with self-respect.

Many governments in the past came up with several schemes for dalits but they were of no use. The ‘CM Dalit Empowerment Scheme’ was going to fulfill its objectives and it would be a model scheme in  country, Veeraiah said.

SUDA Chairman, B Vijay Kumar, DCC Bank Chairman, Kurakula Nagabhushaiah and others were present. The leaders have also performed ‘Palabhishekam’ to Chandrashekhar Rao’s portrait.
