Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has mourned the death of well-known environmentalist and founder of the famous Chipko Andolan (People’s movement aimed at protecting trees and forests) Sunderlal Bahuguna.
The Chief Minister said Bahuguna sacrificed his entire life to lead a movement for five decades against cutting of trees, and to protect forests and birds which were becoming extinct.
“His death has left a deep void in the environment and biodiversity sectors in the country,” Chandrashekhar Rao said, and conveyed his condolences to members of the bereaved family.
