Hyderabad: Fulfilling his promise, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday extended financial support to the families of jawans martyred in the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes at the Chinese border.

Along with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, he handed over cheques of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of two martyr soldiers at the former’s camp office.

The family members of the fallen soldiers thanked Chandrashekhar Rao for his gesture.

Chandrashekhar Rao who has been on a visit to Delhi for the past a few days, reached Ranchi in a special flight. He was accompanied by Minister V Srinivas Goud, MLC K Kavitha, MP J Santosh Kumar, Telangana State Planning Board member B Vinod Kumar, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and TRS general secretary Sravan Kumar Reddy.

Upon his arrival, the Chief Minister was given a rousing welcome in the Jharkhand’s capital city. Flexi boards were organised at several major junctions and also along the roads from the Ranchi airport to the Jharkhand Chief Minister’s official residence, terming him as ‘Achiever of Telangana State, Visionary of Bangaru Telangana, Desh ki Netha and National Federal Front leader’.

He paid rich tributes to tribal freedom fighter and revolutionary Birsa Munda. Later, he called on Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren who extended a warm welcome to his Telangana counterpart.

Earlier, the Telangana government extended support to Colonel Santosh who hailed from Telangana and was martyred in the Galwan clashes.

The Chief Minister announced that the State government would also extend help to 19 Army personnel who were martyred in the conflict. Due to the elections in five other States and the model code of conduct in place, he would visit the States after elections and extend help to families of other jawans who were martyred at Galwan.

Twenty Indian soldiers were martyred in a violent face-off in the Galwan Valley on June 15, 2020, when Chinese forces attempted to unilaterally change the status quo during the de-escalation in eastern Ladakh after tensions along the LAC.
