Nalgonda: Energy Minister G Jagdish Reddy on Monday said the fluoride issue and problems being faced by farmers in Nalgonda district had prompted Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to implement Mission Bhagiratha and 24 hours free power supply to the agriculture sector.
Speaking after inaugurating Rythu Vedika at Vellanki of Narketpally mandal in the district, Jagdish Reddy said fluoride-mixed water had the crippled lives of thousands of people in Nalgonda district. Keeping this in mind, the Chief Minister launched Mission Bhagiratha to supply safe drinking water to each and every household in the State. “The initiative put an end to the decades-old fluoride issue in Nalgonda district. Not only an advocacy agency, but the Central government too declared Nalgonda as a fluoride-free district,” he said.
Pointing out that Nalgonda had the highest number of agriculture pumpsets in the State, he said the Chief Minister took the decision to supply 24 hours power supply to help farmers in non-ayacut areas. “These initiatives are a clear indication of the commitment of the Chief Minister in solving the issues faced by the people of Nalgonda district,” he added.
The Minister said the status of agriculture sector before and after 2014 is an example of the changes taking place in Telangana after Statehood was achieved. He said Rythu Vedikas were aimed at uniting farmers and ensure that they decide the price for their crops.
Nakrekal MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah and others also attended the programme.
