Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao lauded the efforts of the Mahabubnagar district administration and Palamuru Zilla Mahila Samakya for setting a new Guinness Record for the ‘Largest Seed Ball Sentence’ using 73,918 seed balls as part of the Green India Challenge and Haritha Haram on July 12 this year.
The Self Help Groups of Mahabubnagar district had made a record 2.08 crore seed balls in 10 days, bettering their own record of 1.18 crore seed balls they had made last year. These 2.08 cr seed balls were scattered over different places in the district for the purpose of reforestation.
The Chief Minister expressed happiness that Palamuru district, once known for starvation deaths and labour migration, had now become an international dais for greenery under self-governance.
“Supply of sufficient water for irrigation through several projects constructed by the State government transformed the arid lands into fertile ones and there is greenery everywhere with bountiful crops,” Chandrashekhar Rao said, adding that he was happy to note that Palamuru district, which was once an arid land with rocks and hills, had now transformed with greenery and was making rapid strides in development.
Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar and Tourism Minister V Srinivas Goud received the certificate issued by the Guinness Book of World record from the Chief Minister at Pragathi Bhavan here on Friday. The Chief Minister congratulated the MP and Minister for their efforts. He also congratulated Palamuru district womens’ organisations for preparing 2.08 crore seed balls in a record 10 days time and for spraying them on hills and other upland areas in a month’s time to achieve more greenery at minimum cost.
