Hyderabad: Stressing that not a single day can be delayed any further, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy set December 9, 2027 as the deadline for completion of Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) works.

At a review meeting here on Thursday, he wanted officials to chalk out plans for dedicating the tunnel to the nation on December 9, 2027.

Plans should be reviewed every three months and works should be scheduled accordingly. The contractors, JP Associates, should arrange all the equipment and ensure it is ready to expedite the works, he said.

“Even a single day’s delay from the contractor’s end will not be accepted. Works should be undertaken from both the inlet and outlet ends. The government is prepared to release funds for SLBC works through the green channel,” Revanth Reddy said to officials.

Of the total 44-km length, a 35-km tunnel has already been dug up. Advanced equipment will be used to dig the remaining 8-km tunnel. Targets have been set to dig 178 metres per month and complete all works by January 2028, officials informed.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to convene a Cabinet meeting before September 15 to obtain all clearances for the tunnel works.
