Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene an all-party meeting at the earliest to deliberate on delimitation and implementation of women’s reservation.

In a letter to the Prime Minister on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the pro-rata model would not be acceptable to people and governments of southern India.

Any attempt to proceed without addressing these concerns will inevitably lead to widespread opposition and resistance, as it touches upon the fundamental principle of fair representation, he said.

“We must collectively arrive at a solution that is both just and sustainable,” Revanth Reddy stressed.

The Chief Minister suggested a hybrid model in which half of the seats can be increased on a pro-rata basis and the remaining half based on economic contribution (GSDP) and other performance criteria.

Revanth Reddy also wrote letters to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Stressing that a fragmented response would not suffice, the Chief Minister wanted to launch a coordinated effort with unity to address this issue.
