Hyderabad: In a development that should bring cheer to the jobless youth in the State, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is expected to make an announcement on the implementation of unemployment allowance in a day or two.

This was revealed by TRS working president and MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao on Thursday.
Addressing employees affiliated to Telangana Rashtra Vidyuth Karmika Sangham (TRVKS) at Telangana Bhavan here, the Minister pointed out that after the State formation in 2014, about 36,000 youths were recruited through the Telangana Public Service Commission. This apart, 46,000 vacancies in government departments were filled. “In all, 1.31 lakh people were recruited after the TRS government came to power. The Chief Minister has already announced that a notification for over 50,000 posts would soon be issued,” he said, explaining the measures taken by the government to tackle unemployment in the State.

In the private sector, over 14,000 companies were given permissions through TS-iPASS, and this alone generated 14.50 lakh job opportunities for the youth, he said and pointed out that these industries had invested over Rs 2.5 lakh crore.

Turning his focus to the power situation, Rama Rao said Telangana, which always suffered power deficit before the State formation, had no issues on this front now. “In fact, we have reached a stage where we can now proudly say that there is no power problem in our State when we visit other countries or other places within the country. There will be no such problem for future generations too on the power front,” he said.

Stating that from a daily wager to an industrialist and a farmer to a housewife, everyone went through the power problem till 2014. “Like TSSPDCL, there used to be Cess in my constituency in Sircilla covering 13 mandals,” he said, adding that after attending a funeral, people had to literally plead with electricity officials to supply power for 15 minutes so that the motor at a well can be switched on for them to have a bath.

When the State was formed, the total installed capacity was only 7,000 MW, Rama Rao said, and much to the disadvantage of Telangana then, the NDA government had given away seven mandals of Khammam to Andhra Pradesh that included 450 MW hydel power plant to the neighbouring State.

“Chandrashekhar Rao, however, took up the situation as a challenge and succeeded in overcoming the power problem within six and a half years,” he said. The State government, he said, was constructing mega power projects at Yadadri and other places. In green and renewable energy, the State was placed second in the country, he pointed out.

“We are also increasing the installed capacity significantly in solar power,” he said, adding it was only the TRS government that was ensuring 24-hour quality power to the agriculture sector.
