CM Vijay to meet Ajith Kumar, inspect Silverstone during UK visit

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will meet actor Ajith Kumar and inspect Silverstone circuit during his UK visit. The inspection is expected to provide inputs for the state’s proposed world-class motorsports city and help attract investment in racing and related sectors

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, C. Joseph Vijay, will meet actor and motor racing enthusiast Ajith Kumar at the Silverstone circuit on Saturday before flagging off the Michelin Le Mans Cup car race. The Chief Minister will also inspect the infrastructure at Silverstone, one of the world’s most renowned motor racing venues. He is expected to examine its racetrack, safety arrangements, spectator facilities and commercial model for hosting international competitions.

Ajith will compete in the race alongside several leading Indian drivers. The event will begin at 9.45 p.m. Indian time and conclude at 11.45 p.m.

CM Vijay’s participation is a major engagement during his six-day official visit to the United Kingdom.

The visit assumes significance as CM Vijay has announced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly that his government will establish a world-class motorsports city in the State.

Officials hope the Silverstone inspection will provide useful inputs for developing the proposed facility.

CM Vijay is also expected to explore opportunities for attracting investments in motorsports, sports tourism, automobile technology, racing equipment and event management.

The government believes the proposed motorsports city could generate employment and help position Tamil Nadu as an international destination for racing events.

CM Vijay left Chennai aboard an Emirates flight at 10 p.m. on September 10 and travelled to London through Dubai. He arrived at Heathrow Airport at 7 a.m. local time on Friday, corresponding to 11.30 a.m. in India.

British Tamil Sangam president Jacob Ravipalan, TVK functionary Duraikannan and members of the Tamil community welcomed him at the airport with bouquets.

The Chief Minister later proceeded to the hotel in the London Bridge area where he will stay during his visit.

The wider objective of CM Vijay’s visit is to attract industrial investment and create high-quality employment in Tamil Nadu.

He will hold discussions with senior executives and business leaders representing advanced manufacturing, automobiles, Electric Vehicles, electronics and global capability centres.

CM Vijay is scheduled to meet several business leaders on Sunday as part of the investment promotion programme and present Tamil Nadu’s industrial infrastructure, skilled workforce and policy support to potential investors.
