Hyderabad: A special POCSO court has sentenced a gymnastics and karate coach to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a three-and-a-half-year-old girl at a private pre-school in Miyapur.
The school principal was also convicted of negligence which facilitated the offence and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 20,000 on the coach and Rs. 1,000 on the school principal, while the victim was granted compensation of Rs. 3 lakh.
According to the Miyapur police, on June 27, 2019, the victim’s father lodged a complaint after noticing unusual behaviour in his daughter and her unwillingness to attend school. On being questioned, the child narrated details of the sexual assault by the coach to her parents who then approached the police. Following the complaint, the Miyapur police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Police said the coach, Kura Kiran Sai (31), allegedly took advantage of a delay in the arrival of the school bus and took the girl to the top floor of the school where he sexually assaulted her. On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Kiran Sai.
During the investigation, lapses were found in supervision and safety measures by the school management, leading to the arrest of the principal, Chilakamukku Deepika (37).
After completion of the investigation, a charge sheet was filed before the court. Both persons were convicted and sentenced to jail terms.
