Hyderabad: In this age of healthy and sustainable living, the nutritiously-rich coconut water is still not considered the ‘cool drink’. The roadside coconut vendor is only visible to us when we have an upset stomach or during sweltering heat conditions.
But, what if we told you that you could mix your favourite chocolate with coconut water to make a tasty drink or that coconut water with pomegranate makes for a great drink. And if you are in the mood for something spicy then Guava combined with green chillies and coconut water will hit the right taste buds.

This is what Hyderabad’s beverages and healthy food outlet CocoWorks is aiming to create – a sustainable brand based on coconut that is nutritious and tasty. Founded by Dr Narasimha Reddy Basani and his wife Dr Shilpa Reddy under the startup Roligt Foods Pvt Ltd, CocoWorks is a two-year-old sustainable and nutrition-based product brand that uses the process of cold-filtration to make low calorie coconut-based juices, mélanges and smoothies.
The company sources coconuts from farmers who grow them in a pesticide-free environment and infuses them with different fruits and ingredients to provide a tastier and healthier drink.
“The coconut tree is called Kalpavriksha – which means it is a tree that provides all the necessities of life. Our country is the world’s largest producer of coconut and yet the coconut water is not seen as a youthful drink. We wanted to change that perception among people and make it an everyday drink like coffee or tea,” says Reddy, who is a paediatrician and neonatologist by profession and has over 5 years of experience in the medical field.
Along with his wife, who is a dermatologist by profession, Reddy realized that the food being consumed is not safe and wanted to change this and that is how CocoWorks was born.The doctor-turned-entrepreneur spent almost eight months researching and understanding the coconut farming industry in the country. He spoke to many farmers, supply chain experts and also researched about good quality coconuts in India.
“After my research I realized that not many know about the nutritious quality of coconuts. So, we thought of launching products in this segment,” he informs.
CocoWorks has a 10,000 sqft facility in Hyderabad where it makes these drinks and it started selling them last February. The drinks are cold-filtered and the vegetables and fruits are cold-pressed with no added sugar, preservatives and artificial flavours, and only organic honey is used.
