Hyderabad: A report by EY-Parthenon and BookMyShow Live, Coldplay’s concerts for ‘Music Of The Spheres’ in Ahmedabad have resulted in a projected economic impact of Rs 641 crore. This event, which endured two nights at the Narendra Modi Stadium, witnessed the gathering of more than 222,000 fans from over 500 cities and marked a historic milestone in the live entertainment industry of India.

The India Rising Concert Economy report outlines some of the further out cultural-tourism-economic ripples spawned from the very hosting of one of the biggest bands in the world. Considering that 86 percent of the attendees came from outside the host city, the concert also served as an impetus for cultural tourism, large-scale infrastructure setup, and offered a scalable model to support India’s growing concert hubs extending beyond major metros.

The concerts provided a direct boost of Rs 392 crore to the economy of Ahmedabad, with Rs 72 crore collected as GST. There was a hotel price surge and activity in local travels and retail. The airport and metro systems of Ahmedabad were at their highest ever, with over 9,000 jobs created in the region. A survey of 2,800 attendees revealed that for every Rs 100 spent on tickets, Rs 585 was spent additionally on hospitality and retail services.

Environmental and accessibility benchmarks were set too. Over 95% of waste was sent away from the landfill, supported people with disability with inclusive infrastructure and adapted the stadium with turf protectors to preserve the cricket pitch, where sports and entertainment infrastructure met.
