Khammam: Auto rickshaw drivers at old bus stand adda in Khammam city had a surprise visitor as they were going about their business on Tuesday.

District Collector Muzammil Khan visited auto rickshaw adda at the bus stand; introduced himself to the drivers and interacted with them enquiring about their lives, families, children’s education, earnings and other matters.

When the drivers informed the Collector that their children were studying in government schools and gurukuls, he advised them to attend parent teacher meetings regularly.

Khan enquired whether teaching in government institutions was satisfactory and whether the teachers were acting responsibly. He wanted the drivers to lay focus on their children’s studies and bring any issues in government schools to his notice so as to address them.

The drivers told the Collector that they were elated at his visit to the auto rickshaw adda. A driver, Prasad said that there were around 3000 auto rickshaws in the city and wanted insurance facility to the drivers as well as to increase the addas by providing proper facilities.

Responding to his request the official said that insurance facility was provided to municipal and gram panchayat workers recently. If the drivers were ready to pay a certain amount insurance facility would be provided to them.

Soon a meeting with the district level auto rickshaw union leaders would be held to discuss the issue and prepare a plan for the purpose, Khan said. He told the drivers that they could visit him at the collectorate if they face any problems and steps would be taken to resolve them.

Later, the Collector visited a footwear shop in the locality and interacted with its proprietor Syed Bilal Pasha. After learning about his family, business and income, he told the shop owner to avail schemes being implemented by State and Central governments for traders and make use of Mudra loans.
