Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Commercial establishments here on Monday remained closed following a bandh call given by a joint action committee (JAC) protesting against police for abusing devotees during the procession of Durga Devi idols on Friday night.
Hotels, cloth stores, grocery outlets and educational institutions remained closed in solidarity with the bandh call. Policemen were deployed at important junctions to prevent untoward incidents. Members of the JAC submitted a representation to SP Kantilal Patil demanding action against the police official for abusing the devotees.
Meanwhile, Asifabad MLA Kova Lakshmi faulted the police for scolding the devotees and seizing music systems during the procession. She urged Patil to take action against the police official who abused the devotees and objected to cases being registered against the devotees. Sirpur (T) MLA Dr Harish Babu also demanded that the police tender an apology.
