Hyderabad: A two-day conference ‘Communicon 2021’ on communication in healthcare organised by Apollo Hospitals in collaboration with National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) and Society for Development and Implementation of Professional Curriculum for Communication in Healthcare (SDIPCCH) concluded here on Sunday.

The conference featured deliberations on effective communication with patients, role of non-verbal communication in physician-patient interaction, empathy in communication, breaking bad news, violence against doctors and breaking bad news in obstetrics practice.

“As a doctor I am aware how communication is critical and as WHO mentions that 8 per cent to 38 per cent of medical professionals at any point of their profession face physical and verbal violence, specifically because of poor communication,” said Governor, Telangana, Tamilisai Soundararajan, who was chief guest.

Dr Abhijat Sheth, president, NBEMS, said “it is important for a PG trainee to know how to break bad news and how to counsel a patient and their family in such conditions”.

Dr K Hari Prasad, president, Apollo Hospitals Group, Rajiv I Modi, CMD, Cadila Pharma and other senior doctors were present.
