Hyderabad: On Friday, commuters faced heavy traffic jams on the Yousufguda-Venkatagiri stretch after supporters of political parties thronged Kotla Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy Indoor Stadium where counting of votes was held.
By 8 am, hundreds of party supporters and leaders had gathered in front of the main entrance as vote counting and result trends were underway, causing severe congestion on the roadway.
Police enforced section 144 and did not allow entry without valid passes issued by Election Commission officials, restricting supporters at the stadium gates.
During evening peak hours the stretch on both sides again witnessed heavy traffic after Congress supporters celebrated the victory of their candidate, Naveen Yadav, in the bye-election.
The entire stretch resounded with DJ sounds and the bursting of crackers, in violation of police orders, further disrupting traffic flow.
