Hyderabad: Congress MLC Jeevan Reddy has demanded the State government to declare ex gratia of Rs 20,000 per acre of land submerged because of rains and floods that lashed the State. In a statement here on Tuesday, the Congress leader demanded the Chief Minister to personally visit the affected areas or take an aerial survey.
He pointed out that farmers of cotton, paddy and maize crops had lost everything in the floods. “There is no chance of receiving crop insurance because both the State and Centre are not paying their part of the insurance premium,” he alleged. He said that there was no chance of recovery of cotton crop as the market won’t accept moisture of more than 8 per cent.
He demanded the State government to procure all the cotton and the entire decolourised paddy. He demanded the State government to declare a support price of Rs 2,500 per quintal of fine variety of paddy. “Minister for Agriculture Niranjan Reddy was unable to impress upon the Centre about the extent of crop losses in Telangana,” he added.
