Nirmal: The driver of an earthmover was arrested on charges hunting a monitor lizard at Akondapet village in Kaddampeddur mandal on Wednesday. Meat of the lizard was seized from him.

Kaddampeddur Forest Range Officer Geetha said Radhakrishna from Akondapet was apprehended for killing the lizard in his farm and trying to consume its meat. A case was booked against Radhakrishna based on a complaint received from A Goutham of Stray Animal Foundation India, a Karimnagar-based voluntary organisation.

Radhakrishna confessed to killing the lizard for fun and posting a video on his Instagram handle on Tuesday. He admitted to posting the video to draw attention of users of the popular photo-video sharing application. He revealed that he tried to consume its meat by preparing a dish.

Acting on the complaint of Goutham, Forest officials traced Radhakrishna and produced him before a court. He was remanded in judicial custody.
