Complete pending irrigation projects in Sircilla: KTR to officials

Hyderabad: The State government has embarked on a mission to supply irrigation water to entire cultivable land in the Rajanna Sircilla district. The district administration and the Irrigation Department have been directed to prepare necessary proposals for the construction of distributory canals as well as fill all the tanks to facilitate cultivation under their ayacut.
Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao held a preliminary review meeting here on Wednesday on the status of various ongoing irrigation projects and pending works as well as proposed projects. The Minister, who is also Siricilla MLA, will soon conduct field visits to inspect the irrigation facility first hand.
He said that with the availability of water from the Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, crop cultivation has increased significantly in Rajanna Sircilla district. He directed the officials to prepare the proposals to complete the pending works and increase the cultivation area. They were instructed to make optimum use of the available irrigation water resources at the field level, by taking into consideration of the suggestions of local representatives and the needs of farmers.
On the occasion, some legislators took up issues pertaining to development works that can be completed with less expenditure and short span of time, in their respective Assembly constituencies. They also emphasised the need for the construction of new checkdams in addition to existing tanks, to increase irrigation water supply. They also assured to coordinate with the local farmers and the people to acquire land for these projects. They appealed to the government to release necessary funds and complete works in a planned manner.
Responding positively, Minister KT Rama Rao said that the government would provide all necessary assistance for speedy completion of the ongoing projects in the district. He directed the officials to focus on the work that can be completed within a short span in order to supply irrigation water to maximum acres. He directed the authorities to prepare a comprehensive report detailing all the constituencies, mandals and villages level water resources within the district and the strategic projects under them.
MLAs Chennamaneni Ramesh, Rasamayee Balakishan, and Sunke Ravishankar along with Special Chief Secretary for Irrigation Rajat Kumar, District Collector Krishna Bhaskar and other officials, participated in the meeting.
