Hyderabad: Doctors at Gleneagles Global Hospital, Lakdikapul, have performed a complex corrective procedure on a 47-year-old woman from Karimnagar, who was suffering from a congenital lung ailment known as Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformation.
The progressive lung ailment aggravated with age, and from causing frequent tiredness, it reached the stage of causing severe breathless. Due to the congenital ailment that led to blood coming in and moving out of lungs without being purified, the oxygen concentration in this case fell to 45 per cent, doctors said.
“I along with Dr Sridhar Reddy corrected the malformation in the pulmonary artery and vein connection through vascular plugs and coils. This led to oxygen levels in patient’s blood increasing drastically, showing significant signs of improvement,” Dr. Tapaswi Krishna Katragadda, Pulmonologist, Gleneagles Global Hospital, said.
Post-surgery, the patient was kept under constant observation and was discharged once she was deemed fully fit to return to her daily routine. Considering she has congenital complications, the patient has been advised to return for health check-ups from time to time to ensure any future complications are treated in time.
