Kothagudem: A woman Congress activist threatened to die by suicide if a double bedroom house was not allocated to her at Bhadrachalam in the district.
The woman, Saritha broke the door of a vacant double bedroom house at Manubothula cheruvu area on Monday, entered the house and staged a protest with a bottle of petrol. Speaking to the media, she alleged that in a gram sabha held to select the beneficiaries she was allocated a house, but the officials had not handed over the house to her so far.
She demanded that the house whose door she broke open was vacant and it should be allocated to her. Identifying herself as a follower of former MLA Podem Veeraiah, she complained that true Congress workers were being neglected in the selection of welfare schemes beneficiaries.
Saritha withdrew her protest after officials and the police convinced her that a house would be allocated to her as her name was in the list of beneficiaries.
