Hyderabad: AICC national spokesperson Dasoju Sravan on Thursday urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to cancel the October 30 Huzurabad by-election, citing abuse of power by both BJP and TRS parties which are in power at the Centre and in Telangana respectively.

In a representation submitted to Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra in New Delhi, he said “brazen violation of rules, misuse of power, illegal and unconstitutional practices of BJP and TRS were obstructing free and fair elections in the constituency.” “Distribution of cash and gifts like sarees, utensils, sports kits, watches, silver and gold ornaments, two wheelers, four wheelers and other expensive items is being carried out,” Sravan alleged.

Meanwhile, Sanga Reddy MLA Jagga Reddy said both TRS and BJP were enacting drama over paddy cultivation and procurement in the State.

Addressing media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here, the MLA said Congress was fighting to protect farmers’ rights. In protest against the anti-farmers’ practices, Congress will conduct ‘Chalo Siddipet’ programme after November 1, he said.
