Kamareddy: Tension gripped Sommarpet village after a Congress-supported sarpanch candidate allegedly drove a tractor over a BRS-backed candidate for contesting the elections against him in the Yellareddy constituency here on Monday.

According to reports, the Congress-supported candidate, Papaya, though he won the election, was still furious and allegedly drove a tractor over the BRS-backed candidate B Balaraju while the latter, along with his relatives and friends, was talking in front of his house after the election results were declared. Balaraju and a few others sustained injuries in the attack, following which locals immediately rushed the injured to a hospital.

Sensing trouble, police rushed to the village. Condemning the Congress-supported candidate’s alleged arrogance, villagers staged a demonstration on the Ramalayam temple road in Yellareddy town and demanded that officials cancel Papaya’s election.
