Hyderabad: Tension prevailed at the Banjara Hills police station on Monday after leaders of the Congress, BRS and BJP staged a protest, alleging that false cases had been registered against Booth Level Agents (BLAs) during the distribution of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) application forms.
The protesters alleged that the BLAs were booked for questioning irregularities in the distribution of the forms and demanded that the cases against them be withdrawn immediately.
The local Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) lodged a complaint against the BLAs, alleging that they were hindering the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in their work and threatening them.
BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan, Congress leader Vijaya Reddy, BRS Khairatabad constituency in-charge Manne Govardhan Reddy, former corporators Mahesh Yadav and Veldanda Venkatesh, along with several other leaders, staged a sit-in inside the police station, protesting the police action.
As news of the protest spread, workers from various political parties gathered in large numbers outside the police station, leading to a tense situation. Police personnel were deployed in and around the premises to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents.
Senior police officials monitored the situation as efforts were made to defuse the tension. Further details were awaited.
