Warangal: The oath-taking ceremony of newly elected sarpanch and ward members at Chennaraopet in the district turned violent as workers of the Congress and BRS clashed with each other.
The gram panchayat sarpanch seat was won by BRS supporter Kandi Shweta in the third phase elections. A dispute arose between BRS and Congress workers after the sarpanch’s oath-taking was completed and while ward members were taking their oaths at the ceremony held at the mandal headquarters on Monday, as BRS party songs were being played on the sound system.
Some Congress workers wanted the speaker volume reduced as BRS songs were being played. Following this, workers of both parties attacked each other by throwing plastic chairs, and the incident caused mild tension at the mandal headquarters for some time.
A few persons were injured in the incident and were shifted to hospital for treatment. On learning about the incident, police arrived at the scene and pacified workers of both parties.
