Mancherial: Supporters of a councillor from the Congress alleged that the party duped him by denying the post of vice-chairperson during election of the governing council of Chennur municipality. They staged a protest in the camp of the office belonging to Labour Minister Dr G Vivek in Chennur on Monday.
The supporters and followers of Azeemuddin, who won from ward no. 17, raised a banner of revolt against Vivek. They claimed that Vivek promised Azeemuddin that he would be tipped with the vice-chairperson post if the Congress was voted to power. He accused him of duping the councillor by offering the post to some other councillor in place of Azeemuddin.
The agitating supporters announced that they would intensify a stir against the minister if the councillor was not elected as the vice-chairperson of the civic body. They regretted that the Congress did not recognize the councillor’s contributions and dumped them after the elections. They stated that he had played a vital role in the success of the party in elections to Chennur municipality.
Peddinti Padma was unanimously picked as the chairperson of the 18-member Chennur civic body, while Nayakapu Vinay was elected as the vice-chairperson. The Congress won 11 wards and achieved the majority to capture the chairperson post.
