Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has said that the Congress government was systematically betraying Backward Classes (BCs) by indulging in political drama over the promised 42 per cent reservation in local bodies. Party working president KT Rama Rao asked the party leaders to expose the Congress’s duplicity behind its reservation and welfare policies.

At a meeting with BC representatives hosted by former Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav in Hyderabad on Tuesday, Rama Rao stated that the Congress was deceiving the BCs at every step. He said from its flawed caste census to the proposed ordinance, the government had acted without sincerity.

“The entire procedure was riddled with loopholes, with the sole intention of deceiving BCs,” he said.

The BRS working president criticised the Congress for knowingly pushing legislation that could not stand legal scrutiny. He stated that the ruling party was now preparing to engage in fresh theatrics, in an attempt to escape accountability by blaming court interventions.

“The malicious intent was visible from the start, as the Congress understated BC population figures in its caste census and failed to implement even a single promise under its BC Declaration,” he charged.

Rama Rao also took exception to the Congress projecting its caste census survey as a national model, calling it misleading and an insult to the BC community in the State. He said the ruling party had not only deceived people of Telangana, but was also peddling lies on national platforms. He slammed the government for halting welfare schemes launched by the previous BRS regime for weaker sections and failing to introduce any new initiatives, or at least fulfil its electoral promises under the BC Declaration.
