Hyderabad: The Congress party’s decision to field V Naveen Yadav in the Jubilee Hills by-election has sparked apprehension among several staunch party supporters, who claim that the Telangana unit is increasingly operating under the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and AIMIM.
Concerns have also been raised about the party’s internal functioning and the role of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, with critics pointing to the infiltration of outsiders into the Telangana Congress unit.
The Friends of Congress USA, a group of NRIs and Congress supporters, highlighted these issues in a post on Facebook.
“Congress party in Telangana is no more Congress party. This is a BJP/MIM party running under ABVP background Revanth Reddy with seemingly understanding of inept KC Venugopal and Meenakshi Natarajan, besides inept lot of infiltrators in Congress,” the post said.
The group also criticised the decision to field Naveen Yadav, arguing that loyal Congress leaders were overlooked. “This guy has a past with AIMIM and his father is making news with his background, yet he is given the ticket,” it said, sharing images of Naveen Yadav with AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi to underline its concerns.
The group appealed to loyal Congress members to resist “Telugu Desam, BJP and AIMIM infiltrators” and urged Labour Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy to distance himself from BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar.
“We urge you to maintain your integrity and please be mindful as it can make Telangana fight go waste, if power distracts you. Boycott this arrogant lot, who after assuming power has been very rude to core Congressmen,” the post stated.
The Friends of Congress USA also condemned Prabhakar’s recent comments on SC Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, demanding his removal from the State cabinet. “We have time and again demanded the ouster of Ponnam Prabhakar from the cabinet and initiation of enquiry into his functioning, besides the allegations against him,” the post added.
