Hyderabad: Former MP V Hanumantha Rao on Monday demanded of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao to provide ex-gratia to families of Covid victims “as was being done in other States.”

Claiming that many States were extending Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to such families, the Congress leader said free education should also be provided to children who lost their parents to Covid.

Addressing media persons here, Rao took a dig at former Minister Eatala Rajender, stating that it was strange that the latter, who was inclined towards Left ideologies, was making attempts to join BJP.

In another press conference, former Minister Ponnala Lakshamaiah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule had turned into a bane for the poor. The national financial development between 2004 and 2014 witnessed steady growth. But since 2014, things were different, he said, adding that all public sector units were being sold to private entities.

“Prices of essential commodities, especially domestic gas, have sky-rocketed. GST is being collected on many life saving essentials,” he said.

AICC official spokesperson D Sravan said Rajender was looking at BJP “only to save himself from the witch-hunt launched by the State government.” All those who were against Telangana and attacked Telangana supporters during Statehood agitation are now being made Ministers, he alleged.
