Hyderabad: Senior BRS MLA and former Minister G Jagadish Reddy criticised the Congress government, for neglecting farmers and enabling large-scale corruption in cotton and paddy procurement. He said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Ministers colluded with middlemen and millers, allowing them to loot farmers.

Speaking to media persons at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Jagadish Reddy slammed the Chief Minister and his Ministers for taking no action to avoid delay in procurement of cotton and paddy. He said the government delayed procurement and abandoned farmers to fall prey to middlemen and millers. “If the government’s claims on procurement are true, the Agriculture and Civil Supplies Ministers should disclose how much paddy and cotton have been procured from farmers,” he demanded.

In Nalgonda, he said the Congress leaders are pressuring the officials to reject produce brought to the procurement centres, while benefiting the middlemen, to purchase it for a cheaper price.

The former Minister dismissed Revanth Reddy’s verbal attacks on former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao as an attempt to divert people’s attention from real issues. “Revanth Reddy’s empty rhetoric cannot hide his government’s failures. He visits Delhi repeatedly, to prostrate before senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal during the day, as well as BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah at night,” he said.

Jagadish Reddy said the Congress loyalists are increasingly growing frustrated with Revanth Reddy’s leadership and his governance. He pointed out that the Chief Minister is facing severe backlash in his native Kodangal constituency and termed the unrest in Lagacherla as a strong indication in this regard. “The farmers’ outrage against the public servants is actually directed at the Chief Minister over land acquisition. If he physically went there, the situation would have been far worse,”

He dismissed Congress claims of a BRS conspiracy, urging intellectuals and civil rights activists to visit Kodangal to discover the facts. He urged the people to remain vigilant and hold the government accountable for its failures and corruption.
