Warangal: The Congress government‘s Dasara muhurtham for the ‘soft launch’ of the under-construction Warangal Super Specialty Hospital has fallen flat due to alleged lack of proper planning and preparations.
It may be recalled that Warangal in-charge Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, after inspecting the works on October 15, announced that the Super Specialty Hospital would start offering limited medical services from October 20, coinciding with the Dasara festival.
He further told the media that additional medical services would be introduced in November and that the hospital was expected to be fully operational, providing a complete range of medical services, by the end of December. However, the proposed soft launch has been postponed.
Warangal District Collector Dr Satya Sharada stated in a statement that, as all departments were currently engaged in preparations for the soft launch of the Super Specialty Hospital, it had been decided to conduct the trial run soon instead of on the proposed date of October 20, 2026.
Responding to the development, Bharatiya Janata Party State executive member Dr Pesaroo Vijay Chander Reddy told Telangana Today that political differences among leaders in the district Congress party were behind the postponement of services at the Super Specialty Hospital.
In addition, the hospital was not fully equipped to launch medical services. Only 60 per cent of the required equipment had been procured, and the number of doctors was insufficient to meet the patient load.
MGM Hospital itself is plagued by a severe shortage of doctors as well as support staff. If the government wants to make the Super Specialty Hospital operational, it must first fill all vacant positions.
Urgent steps are particularly needed to fill specialist doctor positions. However, no such efforts are being made. In such a scenario, how could the government ensure quality healthcare services for patients, Dr Vijay Chander Reddy asked.
Former BRS MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar noted that the previous BRS regime had planned to provide top-tier medical services in Warangal and taken up the construction of the 24-storey Super Specialty Hospital, modelled after AIIMS in Delhi.
When the BRS was in power, construction progressed rapidly. However, the work slowed down after the Congress party came to power. The delay in launching services at the Super Specialty Hospital proved that the Congress government did not care about the health needs of poor people, he alleged.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy seemed more interested in developing hospitals owned by his family members than government hospitals, Vinay Bhaskar alleged, while demanding that the government expedite the works and make the Super Specialty Hospital operational forthwith.
