Hyderabad: BRS MLC K Kavitha lashed out at the Congress government during the Legislative Council session on Monday, charging it with betraying women by failing to implement poll promises including the Kalyanamasthu scheme.

Stating that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy would go down in history as an anti-women Chief Minister, Kavitha questioned whether the Congress government would fulfill its promise of giving Rs 1 lakh and one tola gold under the Kalyanamastu scheme. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar responded that there were no immediate plans for its implementation, triggering strong criticism from Kavitha. However, he said the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes initiated by the previous BRS government where Rs 1 lakh is provided to the bride, was being continued.

Speaking to reporters, the BRS MLC slammed the Congress for deceiving women with false assurances, despite Revanth Reddy comparing the party’s manifesto to the sacred Bhagavad Gita, Quran and Bible. She also cast doubts over other promises like Rs 2,500 monthly aid promised for women and scooters for girl students.

Kavitha reminded that during the BRS rule, former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao supported girls from birth to marriage, unlike the Congress, which, she alleged, abandoned them after elections. Warning of repercussions, she said women would teach the government a lesson for its duplicity.
