Hyderabad: The Congress launched a fire-fighting exercise on Friday to contain the raging controversy that erupted after TPCC president A Revanth Reddy called senior leader Shashi Tharoor a donkey and even sought his expulsion from the party. And what better way than to lay the blame on the doorsteps of the media!

AICC Telangana incharge Manickam Tagore, seeking to pin the media for the outrage Revanth Reddy’s uncouth outburst caused, tweeted: “When journalists record off the record conversation and send it to people in power what you will think about him or her? Supari Journalist.”

The uncalled for tweet by Tagore boomeranged with Twitterati objecting to his observation, particularly since he himself is believed to have “arranged” for Revanth Reddy to speak with the Tiruvananthapuram MP and offer his apologies for the nasty remarks he made against the latter while chatting with mediapersons on Wednesday. Among those who condemned the TPCC president’s remarks were senior Congress leader Manish Tewari and IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao.

That Revanth Reddy is not particularly popular among his own party leaders in Telangana State is a well known fact which only got reinforced with Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy taking strong objection to the TPCC president’s comments against Tharoor, who himself dismissed Revanth Reddy with a telling comment on his Twitter handle that read “I am sure he was only expressing his fraternal feelings.” Whether Revanth Reddy got a drift of what his senior colleague from Kerala was saying is another matter!

Venkat Reddy tweeted: “Dr Shashi Tharoor is a renowned parliamentarian and highly regarded as public intellectual. His personality inspires everyone across the political spectrum. As a senior Congressman, I am deeply hurt by the unwarranted remarks made by @INCTelangana president against Tharoor Sahib.”
