Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao blamed the Congress government for corrupting the State in two years and accused it of halting welfare schemes, wrecking real estate and failing to deliver on electoral promises.
Reiterating that BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao would resume his role as Chief Minister of Telangana in another 500 days, Rama Rao welcomed BJP leaders including former corporator Navatha Reddy into the BRS at Telangana Bhavan on Sunday.
Recalling the Congress promises of Rs 4,000 pension to senior citizens, Rs 2,500 financial aid to women, scooters to young women and jobs to youth among others, he said the Congress had broken all those in its 700 days in power. He warned voters that after promising one tola of gold under Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak, the Congress government was now attempting to loot the jewellery that women own.
“Revanth Reddy should either deliver the promises made by the Congress or at least apologise for making false promises to win elections and accept his inability to deliver them. Instead, he is evading both,” he said, adding that despite a decline in revenue during the Covid-19 pandemic, Chandrashekhar Rao implemented all welfare schemes without a break.
Recalling the previous BRS regime, Rama Rao said the State’s social and infrastructure gains would be restored. “In another 500 days, we will bring KCR back as Chief Minister,” he declared, terming the Jubilee Hills bypoll as being the first step toward that return.
Exuding confidence over a decisive win for BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha in the byelection, he accused the Congress of resorting to dirty tactics and vote-buying. He said the ruling party’s failures had pushed ordinary people to desperation.
He also criticised Serilingampalli MLA Arekapudi Gandhi for switching sides, stating that his defection to the ruling party was not for the constituency’s development, but to safeguard his 11-acre encroachment land in Gajularamaram.
He added that although the government did not act against him, it had demolished the homes of the poor living nearby.
