Khammam: A dispute over a paratha at a hotel triggered tension following which a Congress leader manhandled a woman Sub-Inspector of Police when the latter tried to control the situation at Kallur in the district.
According to available information, Congress leader Rayala Ramu alias Rama Rao and his followers, who were inebriated, had a clash with the hotel staff and beat them up during the evening hours on Friday. The hotel staff lodged a complaint with Kallur police against the Congress leader and others.
When the police summoned them to the police station, Ramu of Tallada mandal along with his followers went to the hotel and again beat the staff and clashed with the owner. SI, Haritha, who came to know about the incident, reached the spot with other police personnel to control the situation.
When she was questioning Ramu, the Congress leader made obscene remarks against the SI. The SI slapped Ramu on his face and he reacted sharply by pushing her by touching the chest.
Later, the police constables and the SI used force; took the Congress leader and his followers into custody and shifted them to Kallur police station. The youths who accompanied Ramu defended his action arguing how a woman could slap a man.
Two cases, one with crime number 102/2025 by the hotel staff and another with crime number 103/2025 by the SI Haritha were booked against Ramu and 10 others. Some youths tried to escape when they were being taken to the Penuballi police station for questioning and were caught again.
