Sangareddy: Several key leaders of the Congress Party, led by former Sangareddy municipal councillor Ponna Rajendar Reddy, joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi ahead of the municipal elections.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao and former Minister T Harish Rao welcomed them into the party by handing over BRS scarves in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Accompanied by Sangareddy MLA Chintha Prabhakar, Congress leaders Ponna Ram Reddy, Krishna Reddy, Manik Reddy, Dasthagiri, Intiyaz, Madhu, Jawangiri, Narsimhulu and their followers formally joined the BRS.
Stating that the Congress Party leadership in Sangareddy was not giving adequate priority to senior leaders and cadres, Rajendar Reddy said they had decided to desert the party.
The development is seen as a jolt to the Congress prospects in the municipal elections, while the BRS has received a boost just days ahead of the civic body polls.
MLA Chintha Prabhakar said the BRS would certainly emerge victorious in the municipal elections.
BRS leaders Kasala Buchi Reddy, Vijayendar Reddy, Venkanna and others were present.
