Congress Ministers face people’s ire as resentment grows among public in Telangana
Congress Ministers and MLAs in Telangana are facing widespread public protests ahead of municipal elections, with citizens openly confronting them over unfulfilled promises and welfare schemes. In several districts, women refused to accept sarees or raised questions about delayed assistance and irregularities in schemes.
Hyderabad: Congress Ministers are being openly confronted by the public in a series of protests just ahead of the municipal elections, indicating the growing unrest among the public against the State government.
In an incident in Madhira municipality, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka faced the wrath of women, who demanded to know why they were not receiving Indiramma houses and other schemes. In a video clipping that went viral on social media, women were seen confronting Bhatti Vikramarka for not sanctioning Indiramma houses to eligible families as well as questioning the government’s failure to provide enhanced pensions for women.
Khammam DCC president Nuthi Satyanarayana and local leaders had to remain mute spectators as the Deputy Chief Minister had a tough time answering the women. The police had to finally intervene and remove the women from the venue.
In a similar incident in neighbouring Mahabubabad district, the local Congress MLA Murali Naik faced the wrath of local women when he visited 16th municipal ward to lay the foundation stone for development works. They lashed out at the MLA, saying that the MLA and Congress leaders remembered the public only when it is election time.
They complained that the MLA neglected the locals for the past two years.
Another Congress MLA KR Nagaraju who participated in the Indira Mahila Shakti celebrations in Wardhannapet constituency in Warangal district faced the anger of women who criticised him for not undertaking any development works in the constituency. Women expressed their concerns about the lack of water supply and alleged irregularities in the Indiramma housing scheme.
In Hyderabad, district in-charge Minister and Transport Minister, Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday faced a bitter experience while he came to Musheerabad for the inauguration of a newly built GHMC ward circle.
Soon after he arrived at the venue along with Hyderabad Mayor G Vijayalakshmi, hundreds of Dalit leaders gheraoed the Minister over the reservations to SCs in the forthcoming GHMC elections. Holding placards, Dalit leaders blocked Prabhakar, calling for an increase in SC seats in the GHMC elections. The protest continued despite the police trying to pacify the agitators.
In Sangareddy, Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha had a similar experience during a public meeting held in his constituency headquarters on Tuesday as the women voters refused to accept Indiramma sarees while questioning Congress government’s failure in keeping the election promises.
In a bid to influence the voters ahead of municipal elections in Jogipet town, the Health Minister launched the distribution of sarees to women in the urban area. However, several women refused to accept the sarees and questioned the Minister on how the Congress government had failed to give them the promised monthly assistance of Rs.2,500 for each woman. The police had to finally escort the women off the dais. The women also registered their protest over delay in issuing new pensions, gas subsidy and many other benefits.
In Wanaparthy, Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari faced the wrath of the people in Amarchinta municipality. Many women raised their voice questioning the Minister on the failure of the government to keep its promises, including one tola of gold under the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme and also complained that they were not getting the promised zero electricity bills if usage was below 200 units. They also wanted to know when they would get the Rs 2500 monthly assistance. Questions were also raised on Indiramma houses, enhanced pension and even supply of drinking water.
Not just Ministers, MLAs too are facing similar situations.
