Mahabubnagar: Stirring up the political heat, Jadcherla Congress MLA Janumpally Anirudh Reddy on Tuesday advised the State government to stop payment of bills to contractors belonging to Andhra Pradesh in works taken up in Telangana. He said coverts of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu were operating in Telangana, and to smoke them out, the government must stop water and power supply to their houses.
Speaking at a foundation laying ceremony for development works in Balanagar mandal of Mahabubnagar district on Wednesday, the Congress MLA lashed out at what he called a “calculated attempt” to undermine Telangana’s water and power rights. He accused certain contractors and officials of facilitating Andhra Pradesh interests at the cost of Telangana’s welfare.
“Chandrababu Naidu’s coverts are right here in Telangana, getting contracts and playing games detrimental to our water rights. Writing letters will not suffice. I request Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy to deny contracts to those coverts, who will then bring Andhra Pradesh rulers to their senses,” he said.
Anirudh Reddy demanded strict action, including stopping payments for irrigation and infrastructure projects allegedly benefiting Andhra Pradesh-linked contractors. He urged the Telangana government to cut power and water connections to those acting against the State’s interests, suggesting such pressure would force the Andhra Pradesh leadership to withdraw from the Banakacherla project.
