Hyderabad: The State Assembly on Monday witnessed pandemonium for a while after Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy made baseless remarks against Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav during the discussion on budget.
Rajgopal Reddy faced the ire of Industries and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao and other Ministers and MLAs, who demanded that the former tender an unconditional apology to Srinivas Yadav.
Trouble broke out when the treasury benches strongly objected to the statement of Rajgopal Reddy, who in the course of speaking on irrigation projects, alleged that the State government was redesigning irrigation projects and clearing bills of contractors from Andhra Pradesh while bills pertaining to contractors from Telangana were not being cleared.
Intervening in the discussion, Srinivas Yadav said it had become a habit for Rajgopal Reddy to raise the issue of contractors in the House every time. Enraged over this, the Congress MLA said: “Those who are into playing cards since morning become a Minister but I was a contractor 13 years ago and presently I am into public service,” he said.
Taking exception to the Congress MLA’s remarks, Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy demanded that the former tender an apology. “What the MLA said should be expunged from records. Contractor is not a derogatory word. It’s a profession. But making remarks against a Minister, who is from the BC community, is not proper,” he said.
Srinivas Yadav chipped in, stating: “What I said was not wrong. I said the member should speak on demands during discussion on the budget.”
Even as treasury benches demanded that the Congress MLA tender an apology, Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy intervened and said that contractor was a profession and advised the MLA to consider the mood of the House and tender an apology.
When Rajgopal Reddy tried to speak, Rama Rao intervened and asked how the former can make irresponsible remarks against the Minister. The Congress party chief in the State also made crude remarks against Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on his birthday celebrations and when he went to hospital due to health issues recently.
“Adarsh Housing Society, Bofors scandal, coal scam and many more occurred during the Congress tenure. Moreover, the Congress lost the recent elections in the five States badly and it lost deposit in 91 seats,” Rama Rao said, demanding an unconditional apology.
Rajgopal Reddy then said that he was withdrawing his remarks that paved the way for the discussion to continue by other members in the House.
