Hyderabad: Now even Congress leaders are also finding fault with the State government for sending a delegation to Seoul to study the Cheonggyecheon rejuvenation project.

A delegation, including Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Bhongir MP Chamala Kirann Kumar Reddy, MLAs Prakash Goud (Rajendranagar), Kale Yadaiah (Chevella), Government Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalaxmi and some journalists is on four-day visit to Seoul.

When the elected representatives shared images and videos of Cheonggyecheon stream beautification works on Monday, people from different sections criticized the government for wasting public money in conducting such study tours.

A few had raised objections stating that when a consortium was being paid Rs.166 crore for preparing a Detailed Project Report for the Musi project, what was the objective behind the delegation tour when there was a lot of variation between River Musi and Cheonggyecheon, which is a stream.

Raising similar objections, Congress MLC C Naveen Kumar asked the government as to what was the purpose of the government delegation’s visit to Seoul.

“This is a sheer waste of public money. What will the delegation’s visit fetch to the government? Had the State government sought all the details, the Korean government would have shared them” Naveen Kumar is seen saying in a video, which is going viral on different social media platforms.

Meanwhile, on the second day of the visit on Tuesday, Bhongir MP C Kiran Kumar Reddy said a meeting was held with officials of Hangang River Management at its office. Seoul Hangang River board Deputy Mayor Jo Young Tea and Directors of board Youghak Kim, Park Jin Yong, Yun Seok Hwan, Yerim Lee attended the meeting.

Later, he said the delegation had visited Seoul Water treatment plant and witnessed a presentation on treatment of sewage, besides visiting the Seonam water recycling plant.

Seoul Water Recycling Corporation (SWR), under Seoul Metropolitan Government operates two facilities in Seoul (Seonam and Tancheon). The two facilities were private until SWR was established in 2020.

The center treats and recycles domestic sewage in Seoul and nearby areas, and treats an average of 1.63 million cubic meter of sewage and 4,000 kilo litres of excrement per day, which is about 39 percent of the total sewage volume in Seoul City, he said in a statement.

The Center actually determines the water quality of the Han River as it treats sewage in Gwangmyeong as well as nine districts in Seoul, including Dongjak-gu, Yeongdeungpo-gu and Gwanak-gu, he added.
