Congress’ money, liquor distribution bid sparks tension in Medak municipality

Medak: An alleged attempt by Congress leaders to distribute money and liquor to lure voters in Medak municipality triggered tension after BRS cadres caught hold of them on Monday.

Congress MLA Mynampally Rohit also reportedly reached out to voters in various wards of Medak municipality on Monday night, when BRS leaders stopped his vehicle. As the MLA and his followers allegedly attempted to flee the spot, BRS leaders, led by former municipal chairman Mallikarjuna Goud, obstructed them.

According to BRS leaders, Congress workers hurled abuses at BRS cadres, pushed them aside and fled the scene, leading to a scuffle between workers of both parties. It was alleged that Congress workers attacked BRS workers, leaving one of them injured.

BRS leaders further alleged that Congress workers broke a BRS worker’s mobile phone when he attempted to record a video while they were allegedly carrying cash and liquor.

The BRS party is preparing to lodge a complaint with the election authorities against the MLA and his followers. They have sought the disqualification of Congress contestants involved in the alleged distribution of money.
