Hyderabad: Congress MP from Nagarkurnool Mallu Ravi on Tuesday defended Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay amid the raging controversy over the POCSO case registered against the latter’s son, Bandi Sai Bhageerath.

Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan, Mallu Ravi questioned how a man could be held responsible for a mistake allegedly committed by his son. Children can commit mistakes, he stressed. Criticism would be justified only if the father attempted to shield the accused or prevent him from surrendering before the police, he argued.

The Congress MP pointed out that despite being a Union Minister, a case had been registered against Bandi Sanjay’s son and the accused had surrendered before the police, allowing the law to take its course.

Drawing a comparison with the arrest of K Kavitha, Mallu Ravi asked whether Bharat Rashtra Samithi leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao had resigned from their posts at that time. “Why are they now demanding Bandi Sanjay’s resignation?” Mallu Ravi asked. Political leaders, irrespective of party affiliation, should maintain “human relations,” he stressed.

Mallu Ravi also criticised sections of the Telangana BJP leadership, alleging that some BJP MPs had immediately demanded action against Bandi Sanjay after the case surfaced. Without naming them directly, he claimed that three BJP MPs were seeking his suspension from the Union Cabinet in the hope of occupying the position themselves.
